What a wonderful series this is! Helen Mirren, as always, delivers a faultless performance, well supported by all other members of the cast. For those who have not seen it before, the series was made some years ago when women were only just beginning to be appointed to senior positions in the police and documents via a series of murder cases in which she is the senior investigating officer, the career development a female senior detective, who has to deal not only with the grizzly details of the murders she investigates, but also has to counter the chauvinism and the macho outlook of her male colleagues. I saw the series first time around, but they were broadcast over a period of several years I seem to recall, so it was supremely enjoyable to be able to settle down and relish the boxed set over just a couple of weeks.
